Levi’s Journey to Meaningful Work
Levi’s path to employment success was not a straight line—but it’s a powerful example of persistence, support, and finding the right fit.
Over the years, Levi explored multiple jobs, seeking to find something that aligned with his interests or strengths. At one point, he worked part-time in a cleaning role at Buffalo Wild Wings in Shamokin Dam, PA, but knew he wanted to pursue something different. Like many job seekers, Levi was searching not just for employment, but for a role where he felt comfortable, valued, and motivated to succeed.
Levi’s employment journey has included the support of the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), which began working with him in 2014 after he lost a position and needed assistance with job development. While those early efforts helped build a foundation, Levi’s long-term success truly began when he found the right opportunity—and the right support to sustain it.
In January 2022, Levi was hired at Giant Supermarkets. With ongoing job coaching services through Shared Support, Levi has maintained steady employment for over four years, a milestone that reflects both his commitment and the effectiveness of consistent, individualized support.
At Giant, Levi works 12–20 hours per week across three to four days. His responsibilities include managing carts and monitoring restroom cleanliness—tasks that contribute directly to the store’s operations and customer experience. More importantly, Levi takes pride in his work and enjoys being part of a team.
Like many individuals, Levi benefits from structured support in the workplace. With guidance from his job coaches, he continues to build skills in following workplace expectations, maintaining focus, and communicating effectively with coworkers and customers. These supports have been key in helping him navigate challenges and grow professionally.
Over time, Levi has developed positive relationships with his coworkers and has become a valued member of his workplace community. His supervisors consistently recognize his strong work ethic and dedication, often complimenting him on the quality of his work.
Levi’s story highlights an important truth: success in employment is not just about getting a job, it’s about finding the right match and having the right support in place. With continued encouragement and guidance, Levi has transformed his employment experience into one of stability, growth, and pride.
His journey serves as a reminder to employers and community partners across the Susquehanna Valley that with the right opportunities and support, individuals of all abilities can thrive in the workforce and make meaningful contributions every day.
